DROID X Theme Friday: BigDX Serenity
We’re thinking about bombarding you with custom themes for all devices today and the first one up is the Droid X. This theme has been out for a while, but it just seems to get better by the week with new colors, pieces themed, and more support. Say hello to BigDX Serenity in our favorite, pink! Serenity is one of the few DX themes you’ll find that will actually take over almost every piece of your phone. Some of the themes out there are just a framework update, but this is so much more.
Hate pink? Don’t worry, there are 7 other colors at the support thread below.
Download: BigDSerenityXPink1003.zip
Instructions:
1. Download the file from above and drop it on your SD card.
2. You have to be rooted. (Instructions)
3. You need to run Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery.
4. Your phone needs to be deodexed. (Instructions)
5. Open the DX Bootstrap and “boostrap” the recovery.
6. When that finishes, “reboot recovery.”
7. Once your phone boots to Clockwork Recovery, scroll down to “backup and restore.”
8. Choose “backup” to make a clean backup of your phone.
9. When that finishes choose “install zip from SD card.”
10. Then “choose zip from SD card” and find the BigD.zip file, select it and hit “yes.”

MotoPrint Maybe Headed to Android by End of Year
Motorola showed off one of its new apps this week at CTIA called MotoPrint, which does exactly what it sounds like it should do. It will be headed to the Android Market hopefully by the end of the year allowiong Motorola phones to print almost anything to local-area printers. The app apparently has a pretty basic UI, but gets the job done by providing you with a list of printers on your network giving users the ability to print things like Microsoft Office documents, PDFs, and graphics. It also has a cool Google maps-styled campus view of printers in your building. Nice.

Rumor: HTC Merge/Lexikon Headed to Verizon November 11th
We just received a little Friday tip that the HTC Lexikon/Merge will be hitting Verizon stores in about a month on November 11th. A specific name was not confirmed nor was pricing information given, but we can guess that it’ll be at about the standard $199 on new 2-year contract with a mail-in-rebate of some sort.
We’re only considering this to be rumor until we get some really hard evidence, but Verizon definitely likes Thursday launches meaning the 11th looks mighty tasty. Stay tuned!

Amazon App Store Launching this Month?
More rumors have surfaced surrounding the Amazon Android App Store, this time suggesting it could go live by the end of October. We’ve already seen the distribution agreements for devs, but that’s all we really know. We have no idea what it will be called, what it’ll look like, or how it’ll function. What we do know is that the Amazon MP3 store is already built into Android, so this should be a seamless integration if it does happen. And of course we shouldn’t forget that Amazon is a beast when it comes to selling products, so you can only imagine the job they’d do with an app store.
My only thought is, how many app stores do we need?

AppBrain gets update: send links/wallpaper to phone
While I was surfing the internet today, I noticed that AppBrain updated their website along with their Android App. This update allows users send text, URLs, and wallpapers directly to their phone from their own browser of choice. This is a very hand app when you’re lazy like myself and don’t feel like typing out a long text message on your phone, while you can just type it on my computer keyboard and it copies to the clipboard for you. As for the newest feature, wallpapers, you enter the URL of the image you want or upload it, and it will be sent to your device and set as the background.

Verizon: 4G Smartphones and Tablets to Debut at CES in January, Available 1st Half of 2011
Lowell McAdam, COO of Verizon, just announced that we will see 4G LTE smartphones and tablets in action this January at CES. He mentioned that development has really taken off much faster than they had expected and will show a half dozen or so devices at the event. You have to assume this will be the first major sighting of the Droid tablet (Stingray) which is now rumored to be LTE capable and possibly the Motorola Tegra 2 device.
In even better news, the Droid Life team will be at CES to cover all of this insanity. This holiday season is looking to be more and more of a snoozer with January as the target of some game changers.
